First on many EHS reporting calendars is the annual Tier II Chemical Inventory Report.
Submission of Tier II reports to state emergency management agencies, local planning committees and fire departments is required under Section 312 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA). If your facility stores more than 10,000 pounds of a hazardous material, or more than the Threshold Planning Quantity for Extremely Hazardous Substances, you must submit these annual reports.
The March 1 deadline is mandatory, there are no exceptions or waivers. If late, an agency inspection or fines may be triggered. Although forty plus days from now seems like plenty of time to prepare the report, our EHS compliance staff knows only too well that starting early is the best way to submit an accurate document on time.
