Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the field of environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance while working with experienced EHS professionals and clients in industry settings. There is room for advancement within the team and company.  The EHS Specialist will work with Project Managers and clients to provide technical EHS support  in the office and at client facilities. The successful candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, have the ability to follow up in a timely manner and meet deadlines.

 Job Requirements

        • 0-3 years of experience in EHS or related environment
        • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences, occupational health and safety or other science related field
        • Strong critical thinking, technical writing, organizational, communication, and presentation skills
        • Self-motivated, action-oriented, and strong interpersonal skills
        • Quality and attention to detail is extremely important
        • Strong computer skills including proficiency in current versions of MS Office
        • Valid US Driver’s License

The successful candidate may have experience with the following, but we are willing to train the right person:

        •  EPCRA Tier II and Form R reporting
        • AA Air emissions inventory reporting
        • Oil SPCC and SWPPP plans and reports
        • CWA wastewater and stormwater permitting and monitoring
        • Solid waste reporting
        • Compliance tracking systems
        • OSHA employee safety programs and training

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is often required to:

        • Sit or stand for extended periods of time, walk (at times over uneven surfaces), reach with arms and hands, and to stoop or kneel
        • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and/or clothing (e.g. steel-toed boots) is routinely required
        • Lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds at times
        • Work in environments ranging from office to industrial indoor settings, to outdoors in all weather conditions and terrain.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST

St.Germain is looking for individuals interested in advancing their career in the field of environmental regulatory compliance while working with experienced environmental professionals and clients in diverse industry settings. There is room for advancement within the team and company.

Typical assignments may include:

Stormwater – sample collecting during rain events at solid waste facilities, oil terminals, fuel storage and distribution facilities, manufacturing facilities, etc.

Wastewater – preparing discharge permit applications and reviewing data for permit compliance

Air Emissions – assisting with data collection and calculating air emissions of conventional air pollutants and greenhouse gases

Oil Pollution Prevention – assisting with onsite inspections and pollution prevention plan development and updates for clients with bulk storage of petroleum products

Chemical Inventory Reporting – collecting data and information from multiple clients for annual chemical inventory reporting

Hazardous Wastes – learning processes and operations that generate wastes at our client’s facilities and assisting with setting up proper characterization, handling, storage, and disposal systems

Research – reviewing proposed and final laws and regulations on regulatory agency websites that may impact our clients, and researching their intent and proper interpretation for informing and educating our clients.

Data Collection / Compilation – assisting with fieldwork, soil and groundwater sampling, data analysis, and identifying trends.

Compliance Tracking and Follow-Up – working with our cloud-based compliance tracking system – Sentry EHS – which involves setting up specific regulatory compliance tasks, completion dates, responsible parties, and reporting functions for individual clients that contract with us for this service.

Onsite Client EHS Support – providing onsite assistance at our client sites to supplement their EHS staff when resources are limited at these facilities (such as when one of their EHS employees leaves their company).

Compliance Inspections – assisting with onsite multi-media assessments of compliance with all applicable environmental regulations or evaluations of specific areas of regulatory compliance such as hazardous waste management, air emissions, etc.

 

Expectations

Job performance feedback is given frequently and formally at least twice annually. We expect the completion of tasks in accordance with given details and by established deadlines.
