Training

St. Germain currently offers two training classes. The first satisfies the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements set forth in 49 CFR 172.704(a) and the second fulfills MDEP Regulations: 06-096 Chapter 800, 850, 851, 852, 856 (portions pertaining to exempt facilities and abbreviated licenses), 857, 858 and 860 (waste oil) as they pertain to Large (LQG) and Small Quantity Generators (SQG and SQG+) of hazardous waste and Large and Small Universal Waste Generators. This can also cover the requirements in the Maine DEP Biomedical Waste Management Rules found in Chapter 900.

US DOT Training

Do your job responsibilities include offering and/or receiving shipments of hazardous materials?

Training is required at least once every three years for anyone who is employed on a full-time, part-time or temporary basis who directly affects hazardous materials transportation safety. This includes those:

• who classify, describe, package, mark, label, or placard hazmat shipments;
• who are responsible for signing hazardous waste, medical waste, or other hazmat manifests;
• personnel (i.e. maintenance, shipping/receiving, etc.) who collect containers of hazardous waste and are responsible for labeling them for shipment;
• laboratory personnel who ship samples or other hazardous materials;
• employees with FedEx and UPS accounts; and
• who supervise other employees who perform these tasks.

Upcoming Sessions

All sessions are held at St.Germain offices from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Cost of $445 includes a light breakfast, hearty lunch, materials (including MasterRegs 49 CFR Parts 100-185) and certificates of completion.

Maine-Specific Hazardous and Universal Waste Training

Learn practical ways to apply Maine Department of Environmental Protection regulations to your facility.

This one-day course focuses on requirements for labeling, inspecting, packaging and storage of hazardous waste; unwritten regulatory policies and interpretations; and how to avoid common compliance pitfalls.You will also receive in-depth training on making hazardous waste determinations; exploring obscure abbreviated permit options to treat hazardous waste; state and federal spill reporting requirements, with detailed flow charts; and a step-by-step approach for preparing for a regulatory inspection.

Who Should Attend

Training is required annually for large quantity generators (LQG), and highly recommended for small quantity generators (SQG and SQG+). Staff in your facility who handle chemical waste, label, ship or characterizes hazardous or universal waste should attend, including:

• EHS staff including supervisors, technicians or chemical handlers
• maintenance staff including those who are involved in replacing fluorescent bulbs or batteries or other waste materials
• facilities staff including managers and directors
• shipping and receiving staff if they have responsibility for labeling, packaging, or loading wastes for offsite disposal
