Project: Groundwater Monitoring at Bedrock Quarries

CHALLENGE

In accordance with Maine Department of Environmental Protection (Maine DEP) regulations, bedrock quarries are required to conduct quarterly groundwater sampling to ensure that the mining is not contaminating the groundwater.  The results need to be summarized and submitted to the Maine DEP on an annual basis.

RESPONSE

The quarry company selected St.Germain to conduct the quarterly sampling at 6 rock quarries in southern and central Maine. St.Germain developed an efficient sampling program by creating spreadsheets for each site to compile the results and scheduling sampling events in a manner to limit travel time. Since that time, the client has hired St.Germain for our hydrogeologic expertise to help their expansion plans for several of these quarries.
