Job Opening: Environmental Compliance Specialist/Environmental Scientist

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST
This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the environmental consulting field by being actively involved in both field projects and office work with a team of experienced scientists and engineers. This position provides the opportunity to learn and develop professionally with advancement opportunities within the team and company.

The Environmental Scientist will work with project managers and clients to provide support in three technical practice areas: Environmental Investigation and Remediation; Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Regulatory Compliance; and Civil Engineering and Permitting. The successful candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, be a team player, have the ability to follow up in a timely manner, and meet deadlines.

Typical assignments may include:

Data Collection / Compilation – site inspections, soil and groundwater sampling/investigations, data analysis, including the identification of trends, and report preparation.

Stormwater – stormwater sample collecting during rain events at solid waste facilities, oil terminals, fuel storage and distribution facilities, manufacturing facilities, etc.

Compliance Inspections – assisting with onsite multi-media assessments of compliance with all applicable environmental regulations or evaluations of specific areas of regulatory compliance such as hazardous waste management, air emissions, etc.

Oil Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plans – assisting with/performing onsite inspections and plan development and/or updates for clients with bulk storage of petroleum products.

Chemical Inventory Reporting – collecting specific chemical use information from clients and preparing annual chemical inventory reports.
Compliance Tracking and Follow-Up – working with our cloud-based compliance tracking system – Sentry EHS – which involves reviewing proposed and final regulatory agency laws and regulations that may impact our clients, researching the regulatory intent and proper interpretation of the regulations, setting up specific regulatory compliance tasks, with completion dates, responsible parties, and reporting functions for individual clients that contract with us for this service.

Job Requirements

• 2-3 years of experience in a related environment
• Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, engineering, occupational health and safety, or other science related field
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in current versions of MS Office
• Strong critical thinking, technical writing, organizational, communication, and presentation skills
• Self-motivated, action-oriented, and strong interpersonal skills
• Quality and attention to detail
• Valid US Driver’s License

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is often required to:

• Sit or stand for extended periods of time, walk (at times over uneven surfaces), reach with arms and hands, and to stoop or kneel;
• Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and/or clothing (e.g. steel-toed boots) is routinely required;
• Lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds at times; and
• Work in environments ranging from office to industrial indoor settings, to outdoors in all seasons, under varying weather conditions and across varying terrains.
