Maine-Specific Hazardous & Universal Waste Training for Large and Small Quantity Generators

Learn practical ways to apply Maine Department of Environmental Protection regulations to your facility.

This one-day course focuses on requirements for labeling, inspecting, packaging and storage of hazardous waste; unwritten regulatory policies and interpretations; and how to avoid common compliance pitfalls. You will also receive in-depth training on making hazardous waste determinations; exploring obscure abbreviated permit options to treat hazardous waste; state and federal spill reporting requirements, with detailed flow charts; and a step-by-step approach for preparing for a regulatory inspection.

Who Should Attend

Training is required annually for large quantity generators (LQG), and highly recommended for small quantity generators (SQG and SQG+). Staff in your facility who handle chemical waste, label, ship or characterizes hazardous or universal waste should attend, including:

  • EHS staff including supervisors, technicians or chemical handlers,
  • Maintenance staff including those who are involved in replacing fluorescent bulbs or batteries or other waste materials,
  • Facilities staff including managers and directors,
  • Shipping & receiving staff if they have responsibility for labeling, packaging, or loading wastes for offsite disposal.
